Travis Turns Heads at Waynesfield
A small, rural track bordered by miles of cornfields played substitute teacher for nitro superstar, Travis Pastrana. Pastrana, who had just completed a monthlong tour in Australia, took a series of four flights to Waynesfield, Ohio in order to get some early testing in for an upcoming stockcar charity race, Prelude to the Dream.
The car: a late model V8, prepared by Jon Henry Racing.
The result: 5 sessions and a handful of impressed onlookers.
Travis started the day with a healthy sense of realism. "90% of what I know about stockcars, I learned from Days of Thunder," he remarked. But once Travis put on his helmet, even Harry Hogge would've been impressed as TP went hammer down around the 1/3 mile dirt oval. Within 5 laps, Travis was flirting with the 14-second mark and 3 later he was posting times well under. Judging by the looks on the team's faces, that's a pretty good time. The 4-time Rally America Champion, while seemingly comfortable flicking the dirt roadster sideways, limited his enthusiasm to saying, "I'm still probably a bit overconfident and under prepared."
All this preparation will be aired live on HBO, as Travis joins up with NASCAR mainstays Jimmie Johnson, Kyle Busch, Ambrose, Blaney, Kennseth, and Reutimann supporting Team Levine Hospital for Children.
