2011 Race of Champions Recap

Travis Pastrana is no stranger to a challenge, nor the fierce competition at the Race of Champions but even his miracle work behind the wheel could not keep Team USA in the hunt for 2011 Nation?s Cup.

Started in 1988, the Race of Champions brings together the best drivers from around the world and a variety of racing disciples in a head-to-head battle to crown a Champion of Champions. The ROC Nations Cup is held the day before the ROC to decide which nation is the fastest in the world. This year, for the fifth year in a row, Germany toke home the title, with Formula One stars Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel behind the wheel. World Rally Championship ace Sebastien Ogier claimed the individual ROC crown on Sunday.

Team USA looked strong in practice posting solid times against the world?s top drivers, but according to Travis, ?America started off well and I was able to beat two time DTM Champion Timo Scheider in the first heat. But unfortunately, it would be team USA?s only win.?

Deegan and Pastrana hoped for better luck on Sunday in the individual event. Deegan drew seven time F1 champion Michael Schumacher for his first round while Pastrana was matched up with last year?s ROC winner Fillipe Alburqueque. Unfortunately, neither would make it past the first round.
